Inspiration Series 2: Marc Jacobs SS16
October 2, 2015
Hello again! Welcome to another edition of my inspiration series. This time I drew inspiration from one of the absolute greatest makeup artists of all time: Francois Nars. In case you didn't know, Francois Nars is the founder and current creative director of NARS Cosmetics. He also is close personal friends with Marc Jacobs, and finds a way to pull himself off of his private island, Matu Tane in Tahiti, to personally create the beauty look for Marc Jacobs' show at NYFW every season. They both have a flair for extremes, be it extreme simplicity, or oversaturated excess. I love this about them both.
This season, for Marc Jacobs SS2016, Francois created a "slept in from the night before" look that looks kind of like a smoky eye that is half on the eye, half on the hotel pillow. The lashes are clumped and spidery, and absolutely horrendous, which is the beauty in it. There is a striking jolt of blue on the inner corners of the eyes. Eyeliner is kind of still there but not really. They weren't going for a pretty look. The models themselves are flawless, but the beauty look is anything but. Smudged, uneven, and the skin slightly shiny as if they didn't have time to wash their faces. I must say, this was one of my favorite looks this season.
So without further ado, my interpretation of the look.

And here is a closer look at the eye detail. Please excuse the pimple that decided to live rent-free in my eyebrow. I am in the process of evicting him.
